Hi, I’m Kara Kasson!

I’m a registered dietitian nutritionist that empowers people who feel like food controls their life, are unsure how to eat without rules and are consumed by guilt about eating to end the diet cycle, find peace with food and take back control of their life and health through gentle & mindful nutrition guidance and support. 

You’ve tried diet after diet only to be left wishing you had more willpower to stick with it. You may be thinking “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I have more discipline?” Instead of achieving the promised results of each diet, you find yourself feeling addicted to food, constantly guilty about eating and distressed about how much longer you can continue this way.  

Chances are you have turned to diets in the past because you don’t know any other way. Many people think they need rules to follow about what to eat and not to eat or a specific meal plan that lists exactly what they need to eat. The truth is there isn’t a right or wrong way to eat and following rigid rules only interferes with a person’s ability to learn what their body needs and how to naturally implement principles of healthy eating such as balance, variety and moderation.  

Maybe a diet has resulted in temporary weight loss in the past, which gave you the illusion that it worked. However, not only was it miserable physically and mentally, but it wasn’t sustainable and neither were the results. The real problem is that diets don’t work. In fact, they often result in a preoccupation with food, overeating, decreased metabolism, rebound weight gain and a disordered relationship with food.

This highly individualized program utilizes the Intuitive Eating framework. In short, intuitive eating is a weight-inclusive, non-diet approach to eating that helps you to feel your best physically and mentally. 

If you are looking to be told exactly what to eat, this is not the program for you. I’m not here to tell you what to eat, but to help you learn to recognize what you and your body need and to feel confident in nourishing your body. I’m here as a healthcare provider to listen to your concerns and experiences and offer compassionate, evidence-based nutrition guidance and support for building a positive relationship with food.  

During each session we will address topics such as identifying and reducing diet behaviors, tuning into your innate hunger and fullness cues, unlearning unnecessary food rules, coping with emotions without food, prioritizing gentle nutrition and much more.
